Highlighting the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines’ Year of the Youth celebrations, a Christmas concert will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum by the Archdiocese of Manila’s Commission on the Youth and Campus Ministry Office as well as Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom).

With the theme, “KABATAAN: Handog sa Simbahan at Bayan,” the musical extravaganza will be on December 10, 2011 from 7 to 10 pm. It will highlight the God-given talents of the Filipino youth in various fields such as music, sports, politics and philanthropy.

Multi-awarded youth groups will perform onstage. Among them are the Claret Hataw, Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir, Kilyawan Boys Choir, Las Pinas Boys Choir and the University of the East Chorale. Other young celebrities and inspirational speakers will also grace the event.

This major concert follows after the successful World Youth Day Madrid to Manila Overnight Vigil last August 20 and 21, which gathered as much as 12,000 youths from all over the country.

These events are part of the Year of the Youth celebrations, which started from December 16, 2010 and will end on the same date this year. By focusing on the youth, the Catholic Church aims to increase awareness of their plight and promote the youth’s active role in the church and society.

“The Year of the Youth is the Catholic Church’s way of showing its undying love for and hope in the Filipino youth,” explained Fr. Nono Alfono, SJ, Director of JesCom. “This concert will help inspire and uplift their spirits.”

The Christmas concert will be aired a week after on Studio 23.

A donation of PHP50 per ticket will be greatly appreciated to cover the expenses of the concert. For more information, please contact Jesuit Communications at 426-5971 or email jcf@admu.edu.ph.
